A Lie of the Mind (January 28 - March 1, ). by Sam Shepard directed by Loretta Greco. Our "Sheparding America" celebration continues. A landmark play filled with enormous vitality, and humor, it explores the destinies of two families, linked by marriage but set apart by jealousies and distrust, to probe into the human heart, and the destructiveness which it can engender.   A Lie of The Mind has probably aged a little since it was first staged more than thirty years ago, and the male/female dynamic definitely feels outdated, but in terms of production it looks and feels right. Some strong performances and good attention to detail in the staging makes this an interesting play worth seeing.4/5.

Winner of the New York Drama Critics Circle Award as the best play of the year, A Lie of the Mind is the crowning achievement to date of the premier talent in the contemporary American theater. It offers an unforgettable example of Sam Shepard's genius in creating characters who are at once intensely, immediately real yet archetypal in dimension/5(2). Sam Shepard’s most personal American drama, A Lie of the Mind — interweaving his favorite themes of fraternal, paternal, and marital discord — is in fine hands with director Ethan Hawke’s Author: Jeff Labrecque.

It's been too long since I read "A Lie of the Mind", so I won't try to comment on that. But I recently read "Simpatico" which one critic hailed as Shepard's best since "True West". I did enjoy it as it was well-written with interesting characters/5. Get this from a library! A lie of the mind: a play in three acts.
